Mother Nature is Cray-Cray

Good grief, this winter has been all over the place. We had a warm November and the first part of December, with our first substantial snowfall during the holidays. Once it arrived, it blew in with strong winds and non-stop snow for a week or more, and most days stayed below freezing. Then it hit 45 and most of the snow melted in just a few hours. It quickly returned to below freezing temps for weeks, but no moisture again until late February when we had 2 feet dumped on us and it all melted in 5 days, turning our hikes into a muddy mess. Abby was happy. She loves the snow, but really enjoys diving head first into a muddy river more than anything. We did not let her do that, but she really wanted to.

Last week we had spring like temps, upper 40’s and mid 50’s only to wake up to 5″ of snow on Sunday. It all melted once the sun was high in the sky, and by sunset, most of it was gone except for in the shadows. Today, 4 days later, it is 70 degrees and I want to be outside, and I really want to freshen up the yard with new mulch and shrubs, but I know better. We are in a zone that has had snow in July and it is not unusual to have a hard freeze in late May, so I will wait until after Memorial Day. Now is the time to plan so that I can make it happen this year because our planting window is small.

Mother Nature has been a bit batshit, yeah?
