Embracing the Holidays My Way (No Tree Required)
Hey everyone,
The holidays are upon us again, that whirlwind time of year filled with twinkling lights, festive tunes, and enough eggnog to float a ship. If I’m being totally honest, I’ve never been the biggest fan. For years, I was that classic Grinch—grumbling about the chaos while everyone else decked the halls. But lately, I’ve been making a real effort to soften up a bit, to find the silver linings amid the tinsel.
This year marks a first for me: after eight straight seasons of trekking out to chop down a Christmas tree, we’re skipping it entirely. No sap-sticky hands, no needle-dropping mess to vacuum up for weeks. Truth is, life’s been a non-stop hustle lately, and the whole ordeal just felt like one more thing on an already overflowing plate. We don’t even celebrate the holiday in the traditional sense—though I do love that glorious day off to just breathe and recharge.
Don’t get me wrong, I get the appeal for those who dive in headfirst. The gatherings, the traditions… they bring joy to so many. But the gift frenzy? The self-imposed stress of perfecting every detail? Yeah, that part turns me off faster than a burnt batch of cookies. I’d rather keep things simple, low-pressure, and true to what feels good for us.
That said, I’m all about spreading good vibes however you slice it. So from my corner of the world to yours: Merry Christmas if that’s your jam, Happy Hanukkah, Joyous Kwanzaa, Blessed Solstice, or whatever cozy cheer lights you up this season. Here’s to less stress, more rest, and maybe even a little magic in the everyday.
Wishing you all the warmth and peace you deserve,
Angel
