    Rain in Texas

Texas weather is as unpredictable as it has ever been. It has something to do with the jet stream meeting the gulf stream, but I cannot remember the details. My dad explained it in a way that it made perfect sense, and I have to believe he knew what he was talking about. Or, at least he was so certain that it seemed like he was an expert on the subject. Last week we had around 10″ of rain from Wednesday through Sunday. It was a slow, steady rain, that soaked into our dry, cracked ground. It was just what we have been needing, and it was a welcome relief.…

    My Annual Soap Box Rant

As you all know I am not a fan of the holiday shopping frenzy. It has gone from the day after Thanksgiving to the day of, and it’s only going to get worse. I am saddened to see shelves lined with Christmas decorations before we even experience Halloween. That has been the case for years, but soon they will start stretching it into the summer and before long, the holiday crap will just stay on the shelves year round. Now retailers are open on Thanksgiving, forcing their employees to work, instead of enjoying dinner with their children and reconnecting with old friends. Most of the sales are to get…

    REI – Black Friday Champs!

REI has decided to make a statement this year and close the doors on black Friday, while still paying their employees. They feel that the shopping season has gotten out of hand and they will be closed on their busiest day of the year. I have always gone to Academy for camping supplies and outdoor activities, but I may very well have to give REI my business. I am extremely happy that a big box store recognizes that they can be the first to change what has become an epidemic, known as Black Friday. Way to go, REI!

    Costume It Up!

Tis’ the Season to Costume It Up! October is the month for German festivals and beer drinking, but also to costume it up! Are you dressing up for Halloween? If so, who are you for that one day? Are you going to a costume party? Several of our friends are going to costume parties, but Devil is working so I’ll enjoy a quiet Saturday at home. I am looking forward to it, actually.

    Shroom: My Story

Shroom was a unique and very private man. The story I will share with you is mine and one that I feel comfortable sharing with you. He was such a clandestine individual that most who knew him didn’t really know him, as a person. He was intelligent, worldly and well diverse in most subjects. The story of the man before we came to know him is one I will keep close to my heart, but here’s what I will share: Shroom happened into the Tuesday night show years ago, long before Streamate. The association was CamZ. It was a free for all and could have as many as 500 viewers…

It Is Turkey Day for Canada!

I would like to wish all of the Canucks out there, who are awesome enough to read my blog, a very happy Thanksgiving! It’s so strange that you celebrate your turkey day on the second Monday of October, instead of at the end of November. That is neither here nor there, I suppose, but who can enlighten me as to why Canada celebrates Thanksgiving. They were not a part of the Pilgrims plight with the Indians. So, why? (Side note: I am of the opinion that President Lincoln created the “story” of the Pilgrims and Indians eating harmoniously, over a good harvested meal. Basically, we were taught a line of…
