Friendsgiving
My favorite day of the year is Thanksgiving; it’s one that was very special when I was growing up. It was never the same, from year to year. It had many changes over the years. In the beginning it was Mom and Granny, in the kitchen baking and cooking up a storm. I didn’t realize how much work it was, until I was much, much older, but they did it with so much passion and excitement. Of course, I was a kid, and the weeks of planning and grocery shopping, all for one meal, might have seemed exciting to me, but not so much to them. But, alas, it’s my…

Big Red – It Wets the Whistle
I have never been a soda pop drinker. It’s the carbonation; I don’t like it. I’ve tried Dr. Pepper, Coke, Pepsi (blech!), Sprite, 7Up, MtnDew and a few others. It doesn’t matter the flavor, I don’t like it. However, I’ve always enjoyed a Big Red, which is available only in the Lone Star State; it’s a Texas “thing”, much like Blue Bell Ice Cream. Anyway, once I moved to Nevada Big Red was no longer an option, but it didn’t much bother me. Like I said, I’m not a soda pop finatic. When I was in Texas last month, I was at my favorite BBQ joint and in the cooler…

Happy Birthday to the Luckiest Survivor of Hair Brained Ideas Concerning Fireworks and Large Machines!
Can you guess who’s celebrating another anniversary of his birthday? If you’ve spent time with me on VNALive, then you’ve probably guess HotNFriskie. Although he’s been absent for some time, he’s still around and we keep in touch from time to time. I’ll admit, I’ve become the worst at staying in touch but still keep tabs on those that have somewhat disappeared from the LIVE world that has connected us all. Please join me in wishing Friskie a very happy birthday! He’s a walking danger to himself, yet always walks away mostly unscathed and for that, I am very thankful for. Friskie- you are missed, but glad you’re doing well…

October in the Rear View Mirror
Oh goodness, October was a cluster fuck of travel and visiting family, but what an amazing month it was! I started the month off by visiting my family in the midwest, and it was an amazing visit. My second trip to see them this year and I plan on making a habit to visit them at least once a year. I haven’t always been close to family, but as I’ve gotten older and found happiness in life, I realize it’s time.. so, it’s up to me to make certain I stay connected and have no regrets. I was home for 4 days, which was long enough to give Abby hugs,…

Another Day Worth Celebrating!
Today is one of my favorite days! It’s a day worthy of acknowledging the anniversary of a birthday! Today is a good day for a good day! Although he may not appreciate that mention, and he might be somewhat embarrassed, I cannot go through the day without sending out a big shout out to my UK friend. Yes, it’s true, there are a few that might fit this category, but only one with a birthday. Happy birthday, friend! I hope it’s everything you hope, need and desire. Today is a good day.

October is a Fun Month
The weather starts changing, the season moves from summer into fall and people start drinking their pumpkin spiced whatever and many are getting excited for Halloween. October is such a feel good month. For us, we’ve got a busy one, but really that’s nothing unusual these days. I’m out of town starting Friday evening, for 5 days, getting back just in time to pack for a 10 day journey, leaving Abby at her cousins house. She’ll be excited for a few days, then sad, which is always heartbreaking, but she’s loved and I know she’ll be fine. Even though she will be missing her people. So, hello October! I’m excited,…

Shopping and Planting
I am taking the weekend off from site work and cam, and plan to go shopping tomorrow for stuff and then Sunday I want to go to a nursery to get a few bushes. It’s something I had hoped to do in the spring but we were busy and not home much, so I didn’t want to plant and have it die before the heat set in. I was worried it might be too late to plant before winter hits, but apparently in our zone, the fall is a great time to get them established before going dormant. I’m looking forward to it, plus I have a fungus eating our…

To Instant Pot or Not
MtnMan had an instant pot before I moved in, and I’ve said for 5 years now that I need to try that damn thing, but when I look at it, it’s way too complex for me so I use the crockpot instead. Three weeks ago I decided enough of that malarky. I’m using it! I chose ribs for my first trial. I say trial because I’m not sold on it. I mean, it was the latest craze several years ago, but I don’t get it, honestly. I just don’t get it. My first experience was an utter fucking disaster. First off, it took me several minutes to force the lid…

Week of Chaos
Actually, it’s going to be two weeks of chaos, but it’s fine. Everything is fine. I’m fine. You’re fine. We’re all fine. It’s fiiiine. We have someone staying with us through Tuesday afternoon, which means my online time will be extremely limited. I won’t be online for the members hour tonight, which is a bummer, but will be on in the morning for a few hours. I must sign off no later than 430p EST. Same with Monday. Tuesday mid afternoon our house guest leaves, but the handyman arrives that morning, which means I won’t be able to cam until the evening and then it will be evenings only through…
