The Davis Observatory
Several years ago we spent a week in Big Bend at the Rio Grande campgrounds. It was amazing! We woke up to peaceful tranquility every day and explored the Davis Mountains, the Marfa lights (which, if you’re wondering, were in the off season and there was nothing to see. Apparently, even the martians take vacations), Terlingua and, of course, the Davis Observatory. Devil was so enthralled by the milky way and the views out of the observatory that he’s always wanted to go back. This time we’re staying near the observatory and plan to go on a full moon week. I cannot wait to get away for a few days, but to also see the depths of the milky way and beyond, that will be moonlit and breathtakingly gorgeous. Maybe I’ll even see Neal Armstrong’s footsteps.
We’ll spend two days at the Observatory, and in Alpine, before going to Terlingua for a couple days. It’s dusty and rough living, but if you really take in the hard lives and historical ruins, you’ll grow to appreciate it, as it should be…
I’ll be out of town next Monday, through Friday, which will keep me offline. The signals in that part of the state are spotty, at best. I’ll tweet and email as I can, but please know that as much as I will miss you guys, I really need a few days to just explore beautiful trails and not worry about anything else…..
