The Goodnight – Loving Trail
Last week I read about the Goodnight – Loving Trail and all of the trials and tribulations associated with the cowboys along with their wives and children. Today we drove the trail, without realizing it! I love road side history and Devil stopped just so I could read up on the events that took place at the exact spot we were.
What a hard life that was, but also an exciting one that was full of promise. Most ranchers bought the land and then found a wife and moved her to his secluded area of heaven. They all hoped it to be a safe haven to raise a family, but also knew there were Indians and other dangers to be mindful of.
The Goodnight – Loving Trail took roughly 2 months to run cattle from Texas to Wyoming and they had to beat the snow, or else they’d be stuck for the winter, but they also had to watch for Indian attacks and other storms along the way.
Anyway, it fascinates me that I just read about this trail and now I drove on a portion of it. It is beautiful – flat plains and then over a steep hill into the foothills of mountains. I love nature; it is mysterious at times!
