Calling ALL Apple Techs
I need your help! Please.
I have been on Skyprivate (SP) for over a year now and it has been decent enough for me to try to resolve this issue. Unfortunately, they have turned out to be as helpful as Streamate and all other cam sites, for that matter.
I need to install a new SP plugin, so I download it and slide the SP logo to the applications folder. When I am prompted to replace the old file, I accept which brings up another dialog box. It says that the “SP Application is in use”. I have checked and it is not open. There is no black dot underneath the logo and I am signed out of Skype. When I pull up my task manager, it is not listed as being open.
I do not know how to fix this issue because I even tried to trash the old file but it says it is open and cannot be uninstalled.
Do any of my Apple techies know what is going on?

Is Skype actually still open? it may not install if Skype is open(it can be running even if you are signed out). Skype may need to be exited completely.
Just a thought…

Hmm, there is no dot underneath Skype and it is not listed in my task manager… how do I find out if it is open?

That got me to thinking that about whether or not I am completely signed out. I usually just “quit” skype. I signed out and then quit skype, which should definitely close the application completely, I would assume… but no change. It says the skyprivate plugin is still open.

Make sure all your browsers are completely closed too.

Well, I had 3 browsers open when I tried lol

Oh, it’s a plugin for Skyp, not a browser plugin. So that probably didn’t work. What should work is to try installing right after a re-boot.

NO! That did not work. What is the deal. This month hates me. lol

Have you tried launching Skype, and from the “Skype” menu, selecting Manage API clients and remove the existing plugin from there?

Also, if the plugin shows up in the menu bar, click on it and choose quit. There are startup items on the mac that sometimes start automatically and are running under another process.

Try the menu bar first; if you quit it from there, then try dragging the new one into Applications, it should let you.

I prefer Pears over Apples. Just a thought, ha!
