My “Canuck”

Several weeks ago I was calling Outlaw “my Canuck”, when someone informed me that it’s a derogatory term to all Canadians. What? Not when I use it to place ownership on my Canuck! lol. Okay, but seriously, I’m not sure who told that guy that using Canuck was frowned upon if used by anyone who is not, in fact, a Canuck, but he’s wrong and Outlaw, who happens to be a full fledged Canadian, was there to witness the blasphemy!

Outlaw’s response, which is in my favor, or else I wouldn’t post it, (let’s just be honest), is below:

“Canadians use “Canuck” as an affectionate or merely descriptive term for their nationality. It is not considered derogatory in Canada, although other nationalities may use the word as an affectionate or derogatory term.”

And, if we’re going to be so technical about a word, let’s get it right. The word was first used in the 1800’s to describe a French Canadian. The word may very well have been derived from the Cree Indian Mythology to describe a “wolf spirit”, in which they called it Kannuk.

You do realize what this means, right? Outlaw is the wolf spirit and has not been forthcoming with his online family. So, I ask you, what do you suppose is his reason for keeping such secrets from us?
