Are Cows Imported?

brisketDawn and I were going to the store yesterday for jello shots and Devil added brisket and a few other items. The first grocery store we went to only had cut pieces of the big brisket slab and the second place only had one, HUGE slab. Dawn asked the butcher if they had other selections because we needed two. After a few minutes the butcher returns and says he only has a couple other picks to choose from, but they are only 11 lbs. He and I both look at the one that is in the meat bin and I see that it is $61 for 15 lbs and I was clearly shocked. What the fuck? He didn’t seem to know if that was normal and now I am wondering if cows are hard to come by or if they are imported from Texas and that is the fuel cost. I mean, it doesn’t make sense! I called Devil and Rob and apparently, that is a lot more than what we pay in Texas. It does make sense, I suppose. We have cows, the desert has none. Seriously, though, $61 caused a scene in the meat section of Safeway. lol.

Needless to say, the two smaller choices of beef was more acceptable at $45 a piece. Granted, that is outrageous, in my opinion, but it was certainly better than the Grand Poobah of beef cuts.
